Chairman was elected unopposed in 27 districts in the upcoming Zilla Parishad elections. Not only that, 19 people were elected as reserved members, and 68 people were elected as general members without voting. All those elected unopposed are candidates supported by Awami League.
The Zilla Parishad polls will be held on October 17 in 61 districts of the country, except for the three hill districts of the country. According to the schedule, Sunday (September 25) was the last day for the withdrawal of nomination papers.
At the end of the day, the report sent by the concerned returning officers can be seen, in 27 districts, there is already a single candidate, in some districts, a rival candidate has been canceled and one candidate survives. In this way, the chairman was elected unopposed in 27 districts.
The Election Commission (EC)
Secretariat said that at the time of submission of nomination papers, 19 districts had a single candidate for the post of chairman. In the selection of nomination papers, it increased to 22 districts with a single candidate. After the withdrawal of the last nomination paper, it increased to 27 people.
According to EC sources, the districts elected unopposed as chairman are Dhaka, Gopalganj, Comilla, Kurigram, Tangail, Chapainawabganj, Jamalpur, Jhalkathi, Thakurgaon, Naogaon, Madaripur, Munshiganj, Shariatpur, Narayanganj, Noakhali, Barisal, Pabna, Pirojpur, Feni, Barguna. , Sirajganj, Bagerhat, Bhola, Moulvibazar, Laxmipur, Sylhet and Lalmonirhat.
After being elected uncontested chairman in 27 districts, now a total of 90 people are contesting for the post of chairman in 34 district councils. On the other hand, 620 people are contesting for reserved membership and 1505 for general membership. A total of 2125 people will compete for three positions.
In the district council elections held for the first time in the country in 2016, 21 people were elected as chairman, 166 general members, and 69 reserved members were elected unopposed.
