The 2024 Critics’ Choice Awards have just ended and were dominated by the Barbenheimer phenomenon and some surprises.
The Critic’s Choice Awards, award voted by Broadcast Film Critics Associationseeks to establish itself as an important precursor of Oscars.
Tonight, the awards ceremony became the stage for a duel Barbenheimer, with “Oppenheimer” winning 8 statuettes, while “Barbie” came away with six. However, the film Christopher Nolan failed to triumph in the category of Best Actor which was won by Paul Giamatti, a surprise but not that unexpected.
Still in the representation categories, everything seemed to point to a victory for Lily Gladstone (“Flower Moon Assassins“) but Critics’ Choice did its thing and awarded Emma Stone by “Poor Creatures”. Is Lily Gladstone’s dream ruined?
It is worth remembering that last year Michelle Yeoh (“Everything Everywhere at the Same Time“) was also defeated in this ceremony and ended up triumphing in the Oscars. We can only hope that the same happens with Gladstone.
On a night when practically everything went as expected, Critics’ Choice shows us a preview of what the Oscars could be: a Barbenheimer event.
