“When I look at ‘Mary Poppins,’ what interests me technically is that it’s so well done – it’s extraordinary. Not just the visual effects. You have these artists singing and dancing without cuts and, therefore, with nothing to hide, which is extremely extraordinary. I saw ‘Mary Poppins’ [com os meus filhos] several times.”

The filmmaker also argued that when we talk about current cinema, “in technical terms, it is getting worse – cinema is in bad shape and needs to be put back on track in terms of image quality. At the same time, the sound quality It’s getting much, much better. When you look at films from 30 years ago, there were a lot fewer cuts, but they’re not necessarily better because the expectations, the pace and the ability to absorb have changed – and you can’t go back. You have to be realistic about the growth in complexity of each generation of films. You are not creating films in a vacuum; we are building on what came before.”

It is still interesting that Christopher Nolan has reverence for one of the great classics in real life from that company that is best remembered for its efforts in animated cinema. Considered by many to be one of the best musicals, “Mary Poppins” is a work that continues to delight generations.
