There is an absolute classic by Francis Ford Coppola about to get an unexpected television adaptation.

Francis Ford Coppola is indisputably one of the greatest filmmakers in the history of American cinema, being responsible for works still remembered today such as the three films in the series “The Godfather”Apocalypse Now” or yet “Bram Stoker’s Dracula”.

At 84 years old, Coppola still has a lot to offer and is preparing to debut the futuristic epic “Megalopolis” which has Adam DriverNathalie Emmanuel, Aubrey PlazaLaurence Fishburne, Giancarlo Espositobetween others.

What no one expected was that one of his most acclaimed feature films from the 70s would be the target of a television adaptationwhich will be written and performed by JC Chandorappointed to the Oscar per “Margin Call”. Chandor’s latest project is “Kraven the Hunter”universe film Marvel designed by Sony, which will bring Aaron Taylor-Johnson in the starring role, alongside Ariana DeBose, Russell Crowe and Alessandro Nivola.

As showrunner of this ambitious series, you will be Erin Levyfamous for working on “Mindhunter”“Counterpart” and in the historical “Mad Men”for which he won his only Emmy. MRC will be the producer responsible for the series, having acquired the adaptation rights directly from Coppola’s archive.

This new television project presents itself as an ongoing series that will seek to adapt the classic “The Vigilante”(“The Conversation”) (1974) and will be brought to the market by MRC. It remains to be seen which channel or platform will achieve this remake unexpected. One of the changes to the project is that it will not follow a male detective as the original did. Gene Hackmanbut rather a female character.

At logline The official series official reads: “Based on Francis Ford Coppola’s seminal 1974 film, “The Conversation” follows Luddite Harry Caul, a privacy-obsessed surveillance expert, and as he becomes embroiled in a corporate espionage mystery, discovers that it is bigger than she ever imagined. The deeper she goes, the watcher becomes the watched, and she will have to break out of her reclusive life and make the personal connections she has been avoiding to find answers and save herself.” It is not yet known who will follow Hackman’s heavy legacy, but there is speculation that Aubrey Plaza, who has just worked with the iconic filmmaker, could be the chosen actress.

Considered one of Coppola’s best films, “The Vigilante” was released in the same year as “The Godfather: Part II”. Gene Hackman leads an all-star cast of John Cazale, Allen Garfield, Frederic ForrestCindy Williams, Teri Garr and even Harrison Ford. The work that won Palme d’Or at Cannes she was nominated for three Oscars: Best movie, Best Original Screenplay and Best Sound Mixing.
