Windows updates are really important. However, for some people they are uncomfortable. This is because in certain cases they can take too long to install. That’s why anything that can help is welcome. That said, there is a trick that allows you to install Windows updates faster!

Trick allows you to install Windows updates faster!

So if you’re not happy with how long Windows Update takes to install the latest update, don’t worry about cleaning the registry (although there are now Microsoft applications for that purpose) or doing other questionable things that Windows gurus do. often suggest on the Internet. Especially if you have an older computer without much power.

You can make Windows Update work faster by simply closing the Settings app. Albacore (@thebookisclosed) shared this brilliant discovery on his X account a few weeks ago and it was discovered by NeoWin. Like other people in the responses, not everyone believed this. The NeoWin website configured a virtual machine to simulate a low-power computer that barely meets the hardware requirements of Windows 11, with just two CPU cores and 4 GB of RAM. They installed the OS cleanly (a new installation for each pass), turned on update notifications to know when the system was ready to restart, and started testing.

When the Settings app was open, the virtual machine took an average of 20 minutes and 59 seconds to download and install available updates. With the Settings app closed, this time decreased to 17 minutes and 30 seconds on average. This represents a difference of 18%, nothing that deserves to be ignored.

So what’s the problem?

The theory is that the MoUSO Core Worker Process creates extra pressure on the CPU if you keep the Settings app open when installing Windows updates. However, closing the application reduces the load and allows the computer to finish more quickly. You can check this for yourself by launching Task Manager when installing updates.

Of course, the exact results and time difference depend on several factors, such as the applications being run, the power of the hardware, the age of the installation, and more. Some systems may see insignificant improvements, while others will see more substantial results. So, if you want to install the latest cumulative updates as quickly as possible, close the Settings app and let your computer work without interruption.
