Anime film for the BL Ten Count manga has been canceled

Initially announced as a series in 2020 and later turned into a film, the official website for the anime adaptation of the yaoi manga Ten Count in Rihito Takarai announced that the project was canceled due to “production issues.”

The problems began when in October 2022 the staff revealed that they decided to give up on the anime format and that the project had been transformed into an anime film that would premiere in 2023. This did not happen and we now know that the anime was cancelled.

The anime film was animated by the studios East Fish Studio It is Synergy SPand the direction was I’m Toyama (Ijiranaide, Nagatoro-san, Karakuri Circus, Major 2nd, Koi to Uso). The character design and animation direction were by Tomomi Shimazaki (Vampire in the Garden, Kakkou no Iinazuke, EUREKA: Koukyoushihen Eureka Seven Hi-Evolution).

The cast would include:

  • Shinnosuke Tachibana as Shirotani Tadaomi.
  • Tomoaki Maeno as Riku Kurose.

Ten Count is a BL manga with a cumulative total of 2.2 million copies per Rihito Takarai. The manga was serialized in the magazine “Dear+” (Shinshokan) from 2013 to 2017, with a total of 6 volumes.

Tadaomi Shirotani is the secretary to the president of the Tosawa Corporation, and is a severe mysophobe (extreme fear of the dirty). His obsessive-compulsive disorder has limited him in everything from not being able to leave the house without gloves to washing his hands so hard they bleed. When the company president has an accident, he is saved by a mysterious young man who leaves as quickly as he appears.

Ordered to pursue him, Shirotani encounters Riku Kurose, a man who quickly realizes his mysophobia. Reluctantly following the advice to seek professional help, Shirotani visits a psychiatrist, meeting Kurose again, who reveals himself to be his doctor. Thus begins a relationship full of secrets between Shirotani and his new advisor, who urges him to list all the things he doesn’t like doing and leave the tenth blank.
