(Mini-Review) Redmi Note 13 Pro+: Speechless!

Xiaomi, despite having been on the market for many years, is actually still a very young brand, especially in the European market. Therefore, from time to time we see some mistakes being made, as in my opinion was what happened in the past with the mid-range Redmi note 12.

However, being very young, it is also a company with a very different way of being compared to Apple or Samsung. In other words, Xiaomi realized that it tried to grow too quickly, made the mistake, and well… I think we are facing the best launch ever in the Android mid-range.

After all, we are talking about the arrival of a range of devices made up of 5 versions, ranging from €239 to €549. Seems like a big gap? AND! However, every Redmi Note 13 from 2024, even the cheapest ones, looks like a high-end device.

Do you know why? Because in addition to getting the prices right, Xiaomi basically doubled many of the technical specifications of the entire range.

Which is exactly why I don’t believe Xiaomi has a rival in this price range.

But, despite all this being true, it is undeniable that Xiaomi has done as well as ever at the top of the range in this traditionally average range. After all, the Redmi Note 13 Pro+ is a high-end device masquerading as a mid-range device.

(Mini-Review) Redmi Note 13 Pro+: Speechless!

Therefore, I have only had the Redmi Note 13 Pro+ in my hands for something like 36 hours, and as such, it is still too early to do a detailed and assertive review. But, from what I’ve already had the opportunity to use and take advantage of, this smartphone will definitely have a profound impact on the Android ecosystem.

After all, we are talking about a mid-range device, which hits the market with the exact same price as the Xiaomi 13T, which in turn hasn’t even been on the market for that long. You know what’s curious? Despite being a mid-range device, this Redmi is above Xiaomi in some important points.

After all, we have a brighter screen, a comparable SoC, 120W charger in the box, 200MP main camera with OIS and lots of smart technology to improve photo captures, without ever forgetting the 12GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage.

It is a device that appears on the market at the right time, with the right design, and at the right price!

Technical specifications:

  • SoC: MediaTek Dimensity 7200-Ultra
  • Screen: 6.67” CrystalRes AMOLED // up to 120Hz // 1800 nits // 2712 * 1220 (1.5K) // Corning Gorilla Glass Victus
  • RAM memory: 12GB
  • Storage: 512GB
  • Battery: 5000mAh (120W – Charger included in the box) // No wireless charging
  • Cameras:
    • 200MP main camera // f/1.65 // OIS
    • 8MP ultra-wide-angle camera // f/2.2
    • 2MP macro camera // f/2.4
    • 16MP front camera
  • Size and Weight: 161.4mm x 74.2mm x 8.9mm // 204.5g
  • Colors: Midnight Black, Moonlight White, Aurora Purple

Design and Display

The entire Xiaomi Redmi Note 13 range comes with a very similar design line to each other. However, it is undeniable that the Pro+ model has more attention to detail by featuring a slightly curved screen, and in fact, even to the touch it appears to be a real top of the range and not just “another” Redmi. sThis is exactly why it is also the only device in the range with an IP68 dust and water certification.

However, in addition to the curvature, we are faced with a 1.5K AMOLED screen with 1800 nits of maximum brightness, capable of reaching 120Hz without major difficulties.

In addition to all this, it also has TÜV Rheinland Low Blue Light, Flicker Free and Circadian Friendly certifications, and includes several eye protection features, such as reading mode. Other updates include the series’ first addition of an in-display fingerprint sensor.

Performance and Battery

In this ever so important field, Xiaomi decided to introduce 4nm processors for the first time in its mid-range. Thus, the Redmi Note 13 Pro+ 5G features a MediaTek 7200-Ultra SoC, as well as a 5000mAh battery with 120W charging support. What does it means? Well, charging from 0 to 100% in less than 19 minutes.

When it comes to day-to-day use, despite the fact that this is not a high-end processor, it is a SoC perfectly capable of guaranteeing you unrestricted use in everything or almost everything.

Cameras

Another point of great evolution for Xiaomi’s top of the range masquerading as a mid-range. After all, this is not the first time that Xiaomi has equipped its Redmi devices with sensors full of megapixels. However, it is in these devices that we finally see serious use of the sensors that Samsung is supplying to its sometimes rival, and sometimes partner.

That said, as a picture is worth 1000 words, there’s nothing better than taking a look at some of the captures we’ve already taken.

I also made a video while we were on the way to the hotel, on a road with some bumps. It’s easy to see that the new Pro+’s optical image stabilization is really something.

As well as a video inside a TukTuk, at night, completely jerky, to understand the real capture quality of this mid-range.

However, still on the night theme, we have three more night photos.

Conclusion

In short, so far, it seems to me to be one of the most interesting smartphones on the market for the year 2024. It is most likely a model that will leave Xiaomi stores like hot buns fresh out of the oven.

In fact, to completely win me over, the only thing missing was wireless charging. Maybe next year?
