Tesla is recalling almost 200 thousand vehicles!

Tesla is recalling nearly 200,000 vehicles due to an issue with its rear-view camera system. For now, this call to the factory covers models S, X and Y equipped with Tesla’s advanced driver assistance system, Full Self-Driving 4.0.

The recall affects 199,575 Tesla vehicles built in 2023. Due to a software issue, these cars have experienced intermittent rear view camera screen failures, which may prevent the image from being displayed. Failure to see what is behind your vehicle when reversing or maneuvering can increase the risk of collisions.

Tesla has stated that it is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to this software flaw. However, the company responded immediately, developing and releasing a wireless software update to resolve the issue. This will allow collection to be carried out efficiently, without vehicles having to travel to assistance centers.

Owners of affected electric vehicles will begin receiving recall notification letters from Tesla on March 22. They can then install the free update over the air using Tesla’s custom software to fix the rear camera display system.

The recall comes at a challenging time for Tesla, which has reported disappointing guidance for vehicle production growth in 2024 and has slashed prices in key markets to boost demand. Recently, it was also said that Tesla is working on a new affordable model for the European and Chinese markets.

Meanwhile, Tesla has recently faced scrutiny over safety issues, including complaints about its Autopilot functionality. Thus, the American organization NHTSA has opened more than three dozen special investigations into Tesla accidents since 2016, with 20 deaths reported in accidents. In August 2023, the agency also investigated 280,000 Tesla Model 3 and Model Y vehicles due to complaints of sudden loss of steering control.
