In a conversation in LetterboxdTom Hanks revealed the best movie on this theme – “I would say the film called ‘The Best Years of Our Lives’. It has absolutely nothing about World War II, except that it has everything to do with World War II, because it takes place after the war. I think it’s the best film about the war and the generation that fought it. We could see it today and, beyond the fashions and a little colloquial language, it has everything to do with who we are now. I think it’s an incredible film.”

This 1946 classic directed by William Wyler follows the story of three war veterans, who, after the horrors experienced in combat, try to reintegrate into society. A film with an enormous psychological and sociological burden.
