Guillermo del Toro’s new film would feature Andrew Garfield as one of its protagonists. Now, some changes have been made.
With your new agreement with Netflix, filmmaker Guillermo del Toro is developing an adaptation of Mary Shelley’s book, “Frankenstein”. This will be the director’s second film for the streaming platform after his version of “Pinocchio”, which won an Oscar for Best Animated Film. In addition, Del Toro has produced the horror anthology, “Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities”, and the animated saga “Trollhunters”.
According to one of the director’s longtime collaborators, J. Miles Dale, del Toro was supposed to create a universe of monsters for Universal with stories like “The Bride of Frankenstein,” “The Creature from the Black Lagoon,” “Invisible Man” and “The Wolf Man”. Although he started with “The Shape of Water”this idea has not moved forward until now.
The history of “Frankenstein” is very close to the director, as Mary Shelley’s book is her favorite book of all time and the adaptation of James Whale’s story is one of the filmmaker’s Top 10 favorite films.
Now, what is known about this new adaptation? The first thing is that production will begin very soon, although there is still no release date for this project.
You also meet some of the cast members. Starting with Oscar Isaac which will bring to life Doctor Victor Frankenstein, the scientist who creates this creature made from dead body parts. Isaac also joins Christoph WaltzMia Goth and Felix Kammerer.
Originally, the monster in the story was supposed to be Andrew Garfield. However, the actor had to abandon the project due to scheduling conflicts, due to the strikes that took place in 2023, which changed the schedules of many actors. The same happened to Steven Yeun, who recently received a Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Limited/Anthology Series with the series “Beef”, when he had to leave “Thunderbolts” from the Marvel.
Andrew Garfield is known for having played Peter Parker in “The Amazing Spider-Man”, having returned to the role in “Spider-Man: No Way Home” alongside Tom Holland and Toby Maguire, as well as his performance in “The Hero of Hacksaw Ridge” and “The Social Network”. One of the actor’s most recent projects was the series “Under the Banner of Heaven”.
However, Garfield’s replacement has already been chosen, which is Jacob Elordi. Elordi has been one of the most sought-after actors at the moment, with his name having been on the list of possible Superman in the new universe of james gunnand has been part of major projects such as “Priscila” and “Saltburn”the latter has been making waves.
