In case you didn’t know, AMD is preparing its Fluid Motion Frames (AFMF) technology for a public launch later this month (January 24). But that’s not what’s really interesting!
After all, Aaron Steinman, one of the senior managers at the Radeon group, believes that rival NVIDIA will have to take some drastic measures when AFMF arrives, due to its more open nature.
AMD ahead of NVIDIA in driver-based Upscalers!
Therefore, in a short conversation with an international tech community, Steinman stated that “It would be curious to know if NVIDIA feels that it now has to match what we have done in recent months”.
After all, unlike the existing FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) systems from AMD Radeon, and DLSS from NVIDIA. The new AFMF and RSR do not depend on official support from the studios responsible for game development.
In other words, everything will be done on the graphics card drivers side, with no input from the development studio teams required. This is exactly why Steinman continued with his statement, saying:
- “I think what we’re going to start to see is that DLSS is only available in certain solutions on the market. So, either NVIDIA benefits from our solution, because we made it open-source and cross-vendor, or they will probably have to do something very similar. It will undeniably be very interesting to see what happens.”
However, it should be noted that NVIDIA also has something of the same style (NVIDIA Image Scaling), but still a long way from “AI-infused” DLSS technology.
In short, in addition to hardware, are we also going to start seeing a software war between the main companies responsible for graphics cards on the market? Share your opinion with us in the comments box below.
