Final Fantasy XIV live-action series has been canceled

Final Fantasy XIV already has more than 18 million players

On twitter, Dinesh Shamdasanione of the executive producers of the live-action series Final Fantasy XIVrevealed that the project was canceled and that the streaming platform that came closest to moving forward with the project was Amazon.

When asked about the live-action series Final Fantasy XIVthe producer stated:

Dead. We take a fantastic pilot story from Ben Lustig and Jake Thornton
along with a multi-season plan they built with our show runners, but were rejected by everyone. The size and scale required to get it right proved to be too much for anyone to want to risk. Amazon came closest.

As for whether an anime adaptation would be safer, Shamdasani commented:

Harder to be honest and the rights are back in Japan unfortunately.

Jake Thorntonone of the project’s writers, also ended up refer that the live-action series of Final Fantasy XIV was a victim of the Covid-19 pandemic.

It was a real result of Covid, unfortunately. It was released just as studios began to tighten their purse strings.

A Sony Pictures and the Hivemind announced the live-action series of Final Fantasy XIV in 2019. The series was supposed to have an original story set in Eorzea and would have been the first live-action adaptation for the game series.
