The Golden Globes ceremony is over and it’s time to recap the winners, including the biggest surprises.
After a lot anticipationthe 2024 Golden Globes ceremony has just ended. Led by Jo Koy which presented us with one of the worst monologues ever seen in recent years, the night was also marked by the dominance of favorites such as “Oppenheimer”, “The Bear“, “Beef” and “Succession”. However, there was also room for surprises, albeit few.
Among the greatest of them all, “Anatomy of a Fall” won the Screenplay category, becoming the first film substantially in a non-English language to triumph here. Justine Triet and Arthur Harari were in 6th place in the odds and their achievement may indicate an unexpected strength of the film in this Award Season.
Another non-English film that surprised us was “The Boy and the Crane”, which defeated the favorite “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse”, launching us into an exciting Oscar race in the Animation category.
The most nominated film of the night “Barbie” won only two victories (original song for Billie Eilish and cinematographic achievement), and “Poor Creatures” began to show what she came for with the victory in Best Comedy/Musical Film and Emma Stone in Actress.
On television, there were the fewest surprises. “Succession”, “The Bear” and “Beef” won Drama, Comedy and Miniseries, respectively, and both protagonist categories within their segments.
As had happened for “Big Little Lies”, Meryl Streep failed to win the Best Supporting Actress on television category again, the Golden Globes preferred to say goodbye to “The Crown”one of his favorites, with recognition for Elizabeth Debicki.
