A Riot Games today kicked off the 2024 Esports Season League of Legends (LoL), with a video that highlights what’s coming in 2024, including a preview of Arcane’s second season. The event marks the official start of the LoL tournament and ranked season for professional and casual players, respectively, and also serves as a moment to inform what will be coming this year.
“Early Season is the perfect time to lay the groundwork over the coming weeks and months, as well as preview some of the content the team has been working on,” said Andrei van Roon, Director of League Studio. “We hope you’re excited about what we’ve revealed so far for 2024. This year is also especially important as we celebrate League’s 15th anniversary in October! Good luck to everyone on the climb and welcome to the 2024 Season.”
In 2024, players can expect many new features, including updates to game mechanics and characters inspired by “Arcane”, changes to the Champion Mastery system, the return of the Arena, a new game mode, and much more. Additionally, LoL Esports revealed changes to the ranking rules for its two global tournaments, the League of Legends Mid-Season Invitational (MSI) and the League of Legends World Championship (Worlds), and introduced the Esports Hall of Legends from LoL, the Hall of Fame version of League.
A long-awaited animation in the style of The Call, Ruination and Warriors will kick off the new season on January 10th.

Arcane: Season 2
As previously announced, Arcane Season 2 will launch globally in November. To celebrate the new season, Ambessa Medarda, who appeared in Season 1, will be coming to the Rift later this year. Additionally, Arcane-inspired game mechanics, an update to a much-loved champion from the series and new skins will also be released in League of Legends at the same time. Champions in 2024
Skarner’s Visual and Mechanical Update is almost complete and will be coming to the Rift during the first half of the year!
After Skarner, the team will work on two other software updates. champions: one champion of Arcane who will be updated to better align with her representation in the series, and Shyvana who will receive special attention regarding gameplay mechanics.
Smolder the Flamespawn is coming to the PBE on January 9th!
After Smolder, players can expect a wizard Vastayan, solo-laning, mid-range how next Champion.
2024 Skins
In 2024, Rammus and Olaf will get skins!
To the skinsPrestige from the first half of 2024 go to Rakan, Ezreal, Kindred, Evelynn and Kayle (in that order).
The team is currently working on Lee Sin’s skin catalog, and his Art and Sustainability Update will be available to players in early May.
Teemo’s Art and Sustainability Update is taking longer than planned, and an updated timeline will be shared later this year.
Lunar New Year, the first event of the year, will feature the new line of skinsHeavenscale. Players can look forward to the following skins in Updates 14.3 and 14.4:

Systems in 2024
The team will focus its efforts on making improvements to the way the Ranking system evaluates player skill, reducing situations in which a player finds someone on their team with a very different rank. Additionally, attention will be paid to the relationship between the amount of LP lost compared to the amount gained in the new season.
Additionally, we will have changes to the Mastery system Champions in the first half of the year.
In response to feedback about the high number of bots in games, harmful smurfs in matches ranked and an increase in the use of scripts, Vanguard is coming to League. The implementation will allow ending games in progress and refund LP to players in com/con matches cheaters and bots detected.
Modes in 2024
Arena will return in the first half of the year with more improvements:
The number of teams in an Arena match will increase from four teams of two to eight (for a total of 16 players).
We will make changes to the interface according to needs and have new Augmentsmaps and other improvements.
URF will be back for Lunar Revel in Patches 14.3 and 14.4, and One-For-All comes after that.
A new game mode coming later this year will approach LoL’s core gameplay mechanics in a new way and be a more relaxed way to spend time with friends.
