1635. At the beginning of the Edo period, a fragile peace reigns in Japan, after years of feudal wars. But there are warriors without a cause or leader, shinobis, who will do anything to unleash chaos again. Ochō is a courtesan in the Yoshiwara neighborhood of Tokyo, but this profession is nothing more than a disguise. In reality, she too is a shinobi, and her mission is to hunt down those who long for the return of violence.

In this first volume of the second season, Ochō will not only confront the beginning of a mysterious conspiracy that aims to destroy the Tokugawa shogunate, but he will also learn the tragic story of Toya, the Bloodied, and his love for the courtesan Shiraito. And who is the mysterious Hikoshiro, a man for whom she has forbidden feelings and who could change the course of her life?

Yuka Nagatea manga artist whose career began in Weekly Shonen Magazine, presents us with a story halfway between a historical thriller and a classic tale of revenge, illustrated by her magnificently drawn and elegant panels.

Set at the beginning of the Edo period, perhaps the longest period of internal peace that Japan has known, under the reign of the Tokugawa shogunate, this manga presents us with one of the most interesting characters in the samurai series: a courtesan, who is actually a shinobi, a ninja, dedicated to hunting down those warriors and shinobi who refuse to disappear and abandon their ancient warrior way of life, and to insert themselves in this new Japan, with its rigid social structure and its new, but stable order and peaceful.

Ochō, the protagonist of this series, lives in Yoshiwara, a closed and controlled neighborhood in Tokyo, where the pleasure houses and courtesans’ houses are concentrated, as well as the city’s less renowned party halls and public baths. Here she adopted the name Kochō, the “Butterfly,” and is the most famous courtesan in Yoshiwara. But in the shadows of the city a conspiracy is born that threatens the shogunate, and that will bring many surprises throughout this new series of Butterfly Beast, which consists of five volumes. Five volumes in which we will discover if Ochō will be able to overcome the adversaries of this new Japan that is being built around her, and more importantly, if she will be able to overcome the doubts and shadows that will take over her heart…

The first volume of the second series of Butterfly Beast includes a historical dossier on this moment of historical transition in Japan, and on the famous neighborhood of Yoshiwara, the stage for this “Butterfly” saga, Kochō.

Yuka Nagate is a mangaka who grew up in Chiba prefecture. From 2003 to 2006, she taught the art of manga to students in New York, before having to leave the United States due to lack of a visa. In 2007, she managed to publish one of her works in the anthological magazine Comic Bunch, specialized in seinen manga (manga tending to target a more adult and primarily male audience). You are offered a spin-off of the Hokuto no Ken saga (the famous Fist of the North Star) by Tetsuo Hara and Buronson: The Legend of Toki (Hokuto no Ken Toki Gaiden). In 2011, she published Butterfly Beast, a saga in two volumes, and later created this second “season” of Butterfly Beast, with five more volumes. In 2015, she started the long series Gift Plus Minus, which was adapted into an anime.
