Barbie’s reign among HBO Max’s most-watched films comes to an end thanks to this thriller starring Denzel Washington.

Since your arrival to the platform’s catalog on December 15, 2023, which “Barbie” has left no one indifferent. With eyes on you this awards season, the film starring Margot Robbie quickly rose to the top of the most watched chart in Portugal and hasn’t left since then… at least, until now.
According to the platform Flixpatrolthe unthinkable happened and there is a thriller starring Denzel Washington who finally managed to dethrone the great phenomenon of the summer carried out by Greta Gerwig. It is worth noting that the feature film achieved this feat by rising eight positions, that is, directly from number 9 to the top spot on HBO Max.
Launched in 2021, this work commands John Lee Hancock (“A possible dream“) stands out for being a crime thriller set in the 90s that managed to bring together not one, but 3 winners of the Oscar. In the film, Washington stars alongside Rami Malek (“Bohemian Rhapsody”) and Jared Leto (“The Dallas Club”).
In “The Little Things” (“The Little Things”), Deputy Sheriff Joe “Deke” Deacon (Washington) is sent to Los Angeles for what should be a simple collection of evidence. However, he ends up getting involved in the pursuit of a serial killer who has been terrorizing the city.
Impressed by Deke’s instincts, sergeant and department leader Jim Baxter (Malek) unofficially asks him for help.
However, what Baxter doesn’t know is that as they try to track down the serial killer (Leto), the investigation is unearthing echoes of Deke’s past and disturbing secrets are about to be revealed.
“The Little Things” was part of that group of films from Warner Bros. which was released during the pandemic simultaneously in cinemas and on HBO Max. Maybe that’s why it ended up going unnoticed, raising around 31 million at the global box office.
However, there was one element of the film that surprised me. Award Season and which was close to reaching the Oscars. We talk about Jared Leto who, due to his interpretation, was named to the Golden Globes and to Screen Actors Guild Awards in the category of Best Supporting Actor. In both situations, Leto was defeated by Daniel Kaluuya (“Judas and the Black Messiah”) who would also triumph at the Academy.
