Although AMOLED screens have come a long way since the days of burn-in, protections are still necessary. That’s why it was confusing that Samsung’s One UI 6 update disabled this system on many devices. However, an upcoming update will apparently fix the burn-in problem on the Galaxy S23.
Update will fix the burn-in problem on the Galaxy S23
Shortly after Samsung’s Android 14 update arrived, it was discovered that burn-in protection had partially disappeared from some devices, including the Galaxy S23 range. Burn-in protection slightly moves screen elements to prevent them from remaining fixed in the same position for too long. It is generally not noticeable during use, but it is a very important function.
It’s been a few months since this issue was noticed and Samsung has issued some updates since then. However, the problem has not yet been resolved. However, this could soon change.
On the Samsung community forums in Korea, a community manager intervened in a thread of user complaints about the problem with a minor update. Apparently, Samsung is aware of the issue and a fix is in the works. However, there is still no information on when it might arrive. The translated response says that an answer on when the update might be distributed should be available sometime this month. So, during this month, we will be able to know more about when this fix will arrive.
Obviously this isn’t ideal, but it’s all we have for now. We will monitor the situation and update this post as more details become available.
It’s also worth noting that some users claim that Samsung support said the fix arrives alongside the January 2024 security patch.
