Regarding non-security fixes, Microsoft’s support document highlights up to three changes. The Patch Tuesday update fixed an issue that caused the device to turn off when it automatically detected a smart card. This situation did not affect all devices, but Microsoft states that the problem was related to smart cards used with remote systems.

Wi-Fi problem

The most notable fix in Windows 11 Patch Tuesday 2024 is a fix for an issue that caused internet problems at universities, preventing some students from using campus Wi-Fi.

According to the official release notes, Microsoft has finally fixed the issue, which affected universities and some companies. As we correctly reported, Microsoft believes the issue affected Wi-Fi networks that use 802.1x for authentication.

This means that only some universities or companies with a certain Wi-Fi configuration were affected, and Microsoft clarified that the bug did not create any issues.

What’s new in the update? In addition to the changes mentioned above, you should not expect any major fixes in this version. However, if you skipped the December 2023 update, you’ll get these fixes today.

Changes to Copilot

Meanwhile, KB5034123 improved Copilot on Windows 11 with support for Alt+Tab and multiple screens. This function was only available to a small group of users, but now it is available to everyone.

The AI-powered function allows you to access Copilot on multiple monitors seamlessly. You can press the Copilot button on the taskbar to activate it on the desired screen. For those who have a keyboard, the Win+T key combination will switch focus to the taskbar, where you can open Copilot on any screen.

Microsoft is also improving integration between Copilot and other windows opened using the Alt+Tab shortcut. This integration is part of the initial limited release, with a broader rollout planned in the coming months.

Additionally, Microsoft is rolling out a new “Add a screenshot” button for Copilot.

Windows Spotlight

Another significant change is the possible setting of Windows Spotlight as the default wallpaper in the near future. This change may occur for users whose backgrounds are currently set to default Windows images.

Microsoft accounts have also received increased functionality with the update, as it introduces account-related notifications in the Settings > Home section.

These notifications, which cover subscription management and data backup, will be visible in the Start menu and Settings, with customization options available in Settings > Privacy and security > General.
