Between the 22nd and 26th of November, the city of São Paulo will be invaded by the world of anime, games, music and cosplay. During this week, the Geek Week SPan event held by the City of São Paulo, through the Municipal Department of Culture.

During the week, several events will be held throughout the city of São Paulo with lectures, shows and various activations around the geek world. In partnership with SPcine and GameJamplus, Galeria Olido will host several free activities, such as an exhibition, workshop, game development competition and a show with the band The Kira Justice, one of the most traditional in the pop and geek culture scene in Brazil.

For the CEO of GameJamPlus, Juliana Brito, the event will show that games are much more than just pure fun. For her, the objective of the initiative is to bring knowledge and opportunities to people with little access to the world of game development. Projects that are in production or already launched, produced by studios in São Paulo, will also be presented. “For some, it could be a chance to discover a new career through the creative industry.”

We believe that many people don’t even know that they can apply their skills in the world of games professionally, such as illustrators, musicians, actors, writers, voice actors, marketing and advertising professionals, as well as programmers, among others. We want to bring the industry closer to those who often do not have space for their stories to be heard, providing a new professional path, as well as being a form of expression for underrepresented groups – he highlights.

At Galeria Olido there will be a games exhibition taking place from the 22nd to the 26th of November, from 1pm to 6pm, with games developed by students, projects incubated by Spcine and AdeSampa and content from invited studios that are already on the market.

The public will also be able to participate, free of charge and with limited places, in workshops with professionals from the world of game development. The workshops take place in person, from November 22nd to 24th, at Centro Cultural Olido, on Narrative Construction, Game Creation and Marketing for Games.

It will also be possible to participate in a GameJam: game development competition. The goal is to teach and give opportunities to people who have never created a game before. At the end, participants will compete for a prize of 24 thousand reais divided between the top three. The games, produced in less than 48 hours, will be evaluated by criteria such as: team creativity, narrative told by the game, completeness being how complete the team managed to create the game during the weekend, aesthetics, among others.
