Instagram may add a new accessibility feature to its app in the future. The social media giant is working on the ability to automatically translate subtitles in Reels. This according to Alessandro Paluzzi. I remember that you previously revealed Instagram features under development. Let’s look at what’s new in Instagram captions and profile photo zoom.
Instagram: captions and zoom in profile photo are coming
As the name suggests, the feature will automatically translate video subtitles into the user’s preferred language. A screenshot published by leakster suggests that Instagram may add a new toggle in accessibility settings to enable it.
Instagram allows you to view captions on Reels published on the platform, however, at the moment, they are only offered in English. Instagram captions let you know what’s being said without relying on audio, which can be useful for users with limited hearing ability.
You can activate captions on Instagram by going to the app’s settings. Alternatively, you can tap the three-dot menu button in the bottom-right corner of a Reel, then tap Manage Subtitles.
The Meta-owned company is also working on a small update that allows you to zoom in on an account’s profile photo. This will be a step forward from the previous addition last year, when Instagram allowed users to enlarge profile images by tapping on them.
Meanwhile, Instagram is working on a series of other features, such as animated emojis for DMs, disabling read receipts, collaborative carousel posts, multiple audience lists and much more. It recently launched a sticker to turn Stories into templates, a generative AI editing tool, a Reels download option and the ability to share Reels with close friends.
