Amy Winehouse was a British artist, born in 1983, who returned jazz to the mainstream at the end of the first decade of the new millennium. Sadly, the artist died in 2011 at her home in Camden, London, due to her problems with drugs and alcohol.
A first documentary about Winehouse’s life was made in 2015 by Asif Kapadia. Now “Back to Black” will be the latest project to focus on the personal and professional life of Amy Winehouse, after her family signed a contract in 2018 to tell this tragic story but also to celebrate her great talent.
Amy Winehouse became known for her powerful voice and her lyrics. Success quickly came to the artist, who worked with producer Salaam Remi, and with that problems also began to arise. The biggest was her relationship with her ex-husband, and former assistant, Blake Fielder-Civil. This was an extremely toxic relationship for Amy who started drinking a lot of alcohol and then added cocaine and heroin to the mix. Blake revealed that he was the one who encouraged Winehouse to take these drugs. This combination proved to be lethal for the singer, who in addition to addictions also had problems related to mental health, in particular bulimia.
The artist’s second album, “Back to Black”, was the best-selling album of the century in the United Kingdom, which transformed Winehouse into one of the best British artists of the 21st century.
This film was directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson (“Fifty Shades of Grey”“Para Lá da Música”, which is not the first time he has made a biopic about a popular musician and made video clips for Elton John. Marisa Abelaknown for the series “Industry”, is the actress who plays Amy Winehouse, where she will show the beginning of the singer’s career, her rise and the recording of her most popular album.
At your side you will have Jack O’Connell (“Ferrari”, “Seberg – Against All Enemies”, “300”) as Blake Fielder-Civil, Eddie Marsan (“Firebrand”“The Gentleman: Lords of Crime”, “Vice”) as Amy’s father, Mitch, and Lesley Manville (“The Crown”, “Citadel”, “Ghost Line”) as Amy’s mother, Cynthia.
