Nicole Kidman has an enviable career. But in the beginning, there was one big little detail that forced her to lie to get auditions.

Nicole Kidman is one of the most successful actresses of her generation thanks to her installment in films such as “Willing to Everything” (1995), “Moulin Rouge“, “The Others” (2001) or “The hours” (2002), for which he won his only Oscar.

Lately, this star’s career has Hollywood found a new life in televisionwhere he has been a regular presence since “Big Little Lies” (2017-2019), the success of HBO written by David E. Kelley which earned him two Emmysone like actress and another as one of the producers.

After adapting the homonymous novel in Liane MoriartyKidman repeated the partnership with HBO and screenwriter David E. Kelley in the miniseries “The Undoing” (2020). Since then, it has appeared in yet another adaptation of a work by Moriarty, “Nine Perfect Strangers” (2021), from Hulu. Participation in the anthology followed “Roar”from the Apple TV+. Now, Kidman is also part of television universe in Taylor Sheridan (“Yellowstone“) with “Operation Lioness”from Paramount+.

Kidman promised in 2017 that she would make an effort to work with female filmmakers every 18 months. Since these statements, she has worked with names such as Karyn Kusama, Susanne Bier , Kim Gehrig, Vicky Jenson, Mimi Cave, Halina Reijn It is Lulu Wang. Owner of an enviable career, Nicole Kidman revealed to The Radio Times Podcast that at the beginning, he had to deal with several people’s doubts about his future, due to one detail in particular.

Kidman was warned that she would never have a career because she was too tall (1 meter 80). For this very reason, the actress was forced to tell a small lie to get auditions: to say that I was 1 meter and 79, one centimeter that made all the difference. Kidman also says that when she was younger she got to not getting a role in the musical “Annie”as it was four centimeters above what was requested.

The actress also says that people used to ask her what the weather was like up there, now what they hear most is that she is much taller than they thought and that on the red carpet she feels like “a giraffe” when she is in heels.

Nicole Kidman’s next project is the series “Expats”the new miniseries which has already debuted on Prime Video. Commanded by Lulu Wang (“The Farewell“), this is a project based on the novel “The Expatriates” in Janice YK Lee which will show the lives of three American women – Margaret (Kidman), Hilary (Sarayu Blue) and Mercy (Ji-young Yoo) – whose lives intersect after a sudden family tragedy.

Set in Hong Kong in 2014, the series will question privilege and explore what happens when the line between victimization and culpability blurs.
