Resident Evil 4 VR: An example of what VR should be!

Resident Evil 4 VR – Well, as they say, I can’t complain when they give me more than just one good thing! However, before entering this second part of the review, you can follow this link to find out my opinion on the original version (remake) of this game.

Resident Evil 4 VR: An example of what VR should be!

So, does it make sense to do a “review” of a bonus mode for a game that has been out for a few months? Probably not, but that’s never stopped me, and as you’ve probably noticed, we’re here to do justice to my stubbornness.

Why is this “review”? Well, Resident Evil 4 was basically my game of 2023, not only because it lovingly and lovingly recreated the original RE4 (which is one of my favorite games), but because it really is a spectacular Horror/Action experience.

An experience that only got better with the addition of a VR version in this Remake. Incredible, because Capcom had already shown the potential of this combination with Resident Evil Village’s VR mode, which was a PSVR2 launch title.

Needless to say, before I got my hands on “extra mode”, every day I opened Google to see if there was already a definitive release date for the VR version, such was my hype to kill Ganados in virtual reality.

An enthusiasm that was well reciprocated, as I can say without any difficulty, and without a shadow of a doubt, that RE4 Remake VR is the ultimate way to play this game for those who have PSVR2 (the mode is free for those who purchased the normal version , which was an attitude of value on Capcom’s part)!

Why?

Simple! Capcom has managed to bring together almost all the necessary conditions to create a VR experience that, in addition to being fun, respects the fact that many of us suffer from VR sickness.

So, from options to change tunnel vision when we walk, to the fact that when there are more complex animations (like Leon’s rotating kicks), the camera stays fixed, etc…

For me, the only failing option is to be able to move Leon through “teleportation” instead of movement in real time.

However, when it comes to gameplay, it is fluid and the way we change weapons is extremely well thought out. Basically, each shoulder, each side of the hip and each chest has a slot from which we can pull a weapon from our arsenal.

In real life it would be a bit complicated to carry hundreds of kilos of equipment while doing somersaults, but in VR it is highly satisfying to stow my sniper on my left shoulder and pull out an RPG from my right shoulder to finish off a boss. It’s almost magic!

Obviously, the same applies to pistols, SMG and even the combat knife. However, we have to point out that the layout already depends on your preference as a secret agent working for the President of the USA.

VR solves RE4 Remake’s biggest problem!

Something that the original RE4 was criticized for was the fact that it lost a little of the horror element that the series was known for.

Fortunately, the fact that we play in VR ends up solving that problem! This is because in VR and with surround sound, all we need to do is hear the heavy breathing of a Regenerator in the dark to go from being a secret agent… To… Well… Someone who has to go and change their diaper.

In short, if you have Resident Evil 4 Remake and a PSVR2, I tell you that it’s really worth playing this way again. If you only have a PSVR2 and are curious… I advise you to go to the shop, buy RE4 Remake and have fun in this Spanish village infected by the “Plagas”!
