The actor was long months without working on account of actors strike that haunted the industry. His new film, “Poor Creatures”, has been a recurring presence at award ceremonies with Willem Dafoe in the spotlight.
On one of these occasions the North American actor talked about the problems that the Streaming created in the film industry.
THE BIG PROBLEM ACCORDING TO THE ACTOR
In an interview with the The GuardianWillem Dafoe criticizes streaming platforms for encouraging viewers/subscribers to choose the simplest forms of entertainment.
Furthermore, it addresses the difficulty of the most complexes to capture people’s attention – “The type of attention people give at home is not the same. The most difficult films, the most challenging films, may not be as successful when you don’t have an audience that is really paying attention. This is an important thing. I miss the social aspect that films are part of in the world. You watch a movie, go out to dinner, talk about it later and it spreads. Now people go home, they say, ‘Honey, we’re going to see something silly tonight,’ and they flip through and watch five minutes of ten movies, and they say, ‘Forget it, let’s go to bed.’ Where can you find this speech?”
BUT THERE ARE THOSE WHO ALSO SHARE THE SAME OPINION
In the same way we find the opinion in Christopher Nolan (“Oppenheimer”) in relation to streaming – “you can no longer get the same amount of money as you used to. A change to streaming completely changed the industry and created problems for everyone.” In that regard calls for purchase of physical editions of films so that “no streaming platform evil can steal it.”
