Jude Law and Alicia Vikander star in “Firebrand”, an adaptation of one of the best historical books of all time. After the success of Cannes, the film’s future is already closed.
Starring Jude Law (“The Talented Mr. Ripley“, “Sherlock Holmes“, “Love Doesn’t Take a Vacation”) and Alicia Vikander (“The Danish Girl“, “Ex Machina”, “Tomb Raider”), “Firebrand”, by Karim Aïnouz, is the new film adaptation about one of the best books historical stories, “Queen’s Gambit”, by Elizabeth Fremantle.
According to the book’s official synopsis, “Katherine Parr, widowed for the second time at the age of thirty-one, falls deeply in love with the dashing courtier Thomas Seymour and hopes, finally, to marry for love. However, she ends up attracting the attention of the sick, selfish and dangerously powerful Henry VIII. No one is in a position to refuse a real proposal. Haunted by the fates of her previous wives – two executions, two annulments, one death in childbirth – Katherine must marry Henry and rely on her intelligence and the help of her loyal servant Dot, in order to survive the treacherous traps of her life as a queen consort of Henry. Yet as she walks the knife’s edge of court intrigue, she never gives up on love. The dazzling and dangerous Tudor court is made real in this story filled with intrigue, ambition and heated rivalry set against an intense backdrop where romance flourishes.”
This historical film is the first feature film by the Brazilian director in English. “Firebrand” had its world premiere at Cannes Festival, in May this year. Present at the exhibition, our critic José Vieira Mendesit says, “Karim Aïnouz imposes on your film a vision of the time that shows both the subservience and violence of men at that time, while managing to introduce in small flashes, some pressing contemporary themes: domestic violence, religious tolerance, social inequalities”. Seven months later, the The film’s destiny is already set and gets a release date in cinemas.

Film distributors Roadside Attractions It is Vertical purchased the rights of the film. With this acquisition, the film by Karim Aïnouz will hit cinemas next June 21, 2024.
Beside these two actors are also Eddie Marsan (“21 Grams”), Sam Riley (“Control”), Simon Russell Beale (“The Death of Stalin”) and Erin Doherty (“The Crown“).
