This new star beat out all other alternatives for the role of Supergirl in James Gunn’s highly anticipated film, Superman: Legacy.

Famous for portraying the younger version of Rhaenyra Targaryen in the hit HBO series, Milly Alcock now joins David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan in the new DC Extended Universe (DCU) project. Alcock came out on top among the other actresses considered for the role, with the final choice being Emilia Jones (“CODA”) and Meg Donnelly, who doubled the same character in the animated version.

There was already a lot of talk surrounding the possible return of Supergirl in the new DC comics cinematic universe. Furthermore, we know that this introduction will be followed by a solo project, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, based on the work of Tom King.

It is interesting to note that Alcock is not the first actress from the “Game of Thrones” universe to make a transition to the world of superheroes. Jason Momoa, as Aquaman, is the most notable example. However, other actors from the series, such as Pedro Pascal in “Wonder Woman: 1984″ and Matt Smith in the Sony film,”Morbius”, received mixed or negative reactions on their transition to this cinematographic genre. So, the question that remains is whether Alcock will be able to break this ‘curse’ and succeed as Clark Kent’s cousin.

According to the reactions, it appears so. On Instagram, James Gunn commented on the news: “It’s true. Milly is a fantastically talented young actress, and I’m incredibly excited for her to be part of the DCU. Yes, I first became aware of it in ”House of the Dragon”, but I was impressed by her varied auditions and screen tests for #Supergirl. She embodies the Kara imagined by [Tom King, Bilquis Evely] and Ana Nogueira.”

Milly Alcock joins other actresses who have donned the Supergirl costume. Among them, Melissa Benoist who played the iconic role for six seasons in the series of the same name on the CW.
