Kakegurui manga will go on hiatus

The most recent edition of Gangan Joker announced that the manga Kakegurui (Kakegurui – Compulsive Gambler), written by Homura Kawamoto and illustrated by Tōru Naomura, will take a few months to “prepare and recharge” for new developments in the manga. In 2024 the manga will celebrate its 10th anniversary.

The manga Kakegurui began serialization in Gangan Joker in March 2014 and inspired an anime series from July to September 2017 with a second debuting in January 2019. The manga also inspired a 10-episode live-action series that premiered in Japan in January 2018, with a second season premiering in March 2019 and a live-action film in May 2019.

The animation for the anime adaptation is by the studio (), the direction is (Garo the Animation, PES: Peace Eco Smile), argument is fromYasuko Kobayashi (Attack on Titan, Garo the Animation, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, Shakugan no Shana) and the character design is by Manabu Akita (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure episodes).

The manga inspired two other manga spinoffs. Kakegurui (Kari) by Taku Kawamura in December 2016 and Kakegurui twin by Kei Saiki in September 2015.
