MagSafe: What is the real use of magnets on the iPhone?

The MagSafe technology currently used in Apple’s iPhone range of smartphones is useful for a lot of things! After all, it can be used for charging, for placing magnetic wallets, for finger rests, for “attaching” your smartphone to the car or to your computer monitor, etc…

But the basis of the technology is obviously based on the premise of Apple’s first MagSafe chargers for MacBook computers. Do you still remember?

MagSafe: What is the real use of magnets on the iPhone?

Therefore, in the early days of technology MagSafe, the idea was to keep the charger connected to MacBook laptops using simple magnets. This way, if your dog, cat or child ran by and took the cable in front of you, your laptop would be safe on the table, or in your lap. It was simply a way to bring more security and peace of mind into your life.

However, unfortunately, with the 2015 and 2016 models of the MacBook and MacBook Pro, Apple decided to remove the functionality from its notebooks in order to take advantage of the charging capabilities of USB-C. But as this decision met with a lot of criticism, Apple decided to once again invest in magnets, but not just in laptops… Also on smartphones, and even on other mobile devices.

This is exactly why we not only have MagSafe starting with the iPhone 12, but we also have thousands of covers with magnets on the market, in order to further promote the functionality.

Interestingly, MagSafe is even the basis of the new wireless charging standard (Qi 2) in the mobile world. But… How does it work? And for what?

It’s very simple!

The magnets that we have hidden on the back of the iPhone, and are implemented on the back of the vast majority of modern cases, serve to align the wireless charger perfectly, which in turn does not increase energy efficiency in itself, but ensures that the alignment is perfect, and this increases loading efficiency.

In fact, we even have a magnet just for alignment, to promote that perfect fit.
