Tomorrow, January 23rd, the Academy will reveal the nominees for the 2024 Oscars. These are our final bets.

Considered as the biggest celebration of cinema and Hollywood, the Oscars are still one of the most prestigious and most watched in the world.

After months of preparation with various precursors of criticism and trade unionsthe Academy will tomorrow, January 23rd, reveal its nominees in 23 categories.

In the category of Best movie, the Producers Union changed our minds by recognizing the 10 most rated films, according to the GoldDerby bets. The big surprise is that this voting body, so predominantly American and historically resistant to non-English language films and cinema with a more independent character, embraced “Past Lives”“The Zone of Interest” and “Anatomy of a Fall”.

Given this scenario, which candidate will be in the most vulnerable position? With an unimpressive public reception, “Conductor” seems to fit this position, even though its performance in BAFTA and in other unions may indicate some strength.

AUNJANUE ELLIS-TAYLOR, THE NEW ANDREA RISERBOROUGH?

It’s also worth considering the campaign to elevate “Origin” from Ava Duvernaywhich was carried out during the voting period by Frances Fisherthe veteran actress who was one of the main drivers of the Andrea Riserborough phenomenon that resulted in an unprecedented nomination in Best actress in the previous year.

This year, it’s trying the same, with several celebrities like Cher, Sarah Paulson or Angelina Jolie to spread the word about Duvernay’s film that was ignored by Neon.

The main difference between these two initiatives is that this year’s appears to be less focused on a single category and with a less direct message that encompasses both Best Film and Best Actress for the previously nominated Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor. However, will lightning strike the same place twice?

Finally, after making history the previous year with the appointment to “Ice Merchants”, there is another Portuguese film on its way to the Oscars, the short film “Um caroço de avocado”. Will Portugal have reasons to smile two years in a row?

With several questions to be answered and several scenarios that could happen, these are our final predictions for the Oscars:
