“Magic Mike: The Last Dance” was finally dethroned from the top of HBO Max by an unexpected film that is about to get a sequel.

In the last days, the throne of most watched films in our country had been occupied by “Magic Mike: The Last Dance”. However, a new and unexpected leader emerged.

As the approaching debut of a new chapter on December 21st, everything indicates that the Portuguese took the opportunity to refresh their memories and revisit who is one of the films more successful than DC universe.

According to platform data Flixpatrol, “Aquaman” with Jason Momoa surpassed the film with Channing Tatum and is now the most watched on HBO Max.

With 65% approval from critics and 72% from the public in Rotten Tomatoesthe consensus is that it is a fun and unapologetically ridiculous work, offering a CGI superhero spectacle with energetic action with an emphasis on good old-fashioned fun.

For the TIME Magazine, “The film’s biggest selling points are its affable, bear-hugging spirit and its lush, wacky visuals.” Already the Slate highlights that “There are parts of Aquaman that are so wonderfully strange that it is surprising to see them in a blockbuster saga”.

James Wan in charge of the film was also the target of praise, from MovieFreak.com “Wan’s descent into comic book fantasy is almost incredible, even his frequent mistakes brimming with an infectious, giddy fervor that is almost wonderful.”

O Chicago Reader also highlights the technical work of the film, “The widescreen images of the veteran cinematographer Don Burgess seduce and the production design of Bill Brzeski makes a powerful impression.” However, critics were not convinced by the film’s “next time, someone please give Momoa and company some memorable dialogue” pitch.

Jason Momoa will be return to our screens as the iconic character in “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” on December 21st.
